TabletClass Math

Disclaimer:  I received this complimentary product through the
Homeschool Review Crew.

Over the past weeks I have been perusing the Algebra I course from TabletClass Math. I have six children and over the years I have used MANY math curricula. Early on I found out that what worked with my first child didn't work for my second child and so on. I have also reviewed many math curricula. After a recent negative experience reviewing a math curriculum I was not so sure I wanted to take on reviewing another math curriculum so soon. I was asked to write a thorough informative review of the curriculum how it works, try out some lessons, and get familiar with the curriculum. Well I did that and I was SHOCKINGLY SURPRISED at how much l loved the curriculum.

Parent Portal

TabletClass Math is a self-paced math curriculum. There is a Parent Portal which is optional. It includes printable chapter tests, answer keys, a final exam, a grade calculation worksheet, and many other useful aids. The Parent Portal is helpful if you want a schedule of sorts laid out for you. There are three course paces: slower (11-14 months), average (8-10 months), and accelerated (5-7 months).

Algebra I

Each chapter has anywhere from 3 to 9 lessons. At the end of each chapter your student will have an extra practice lesson, chapter review notes, and then the end of the chapter Quiz.

Each lesson begins with a very thorough, easy to follow lesson explaining the new mathematical concept. Your student will not see the instructor. They will hear him and see a board where the instructor works all of the problems out. Each lesson will also include LESSON OBJECTIVES that will be written out. Important mathematical RULES will be written out in yellow boxes. At the end of each lesson the instructor has typed out a section entitled REVIEW. This is restating all of the key concepts that were covered in the lesson. It would be a good idea if your student write out the lesson objectives, rules, and reviews so that they can go back and reference them if needed.

Chapter 1 ~ Introduction to Algebra Terms and Concepts

Chapter 2 ~ Real Number and Simplifying Variable Expressions

Chapter 3 ~ Solving Equations

Chapter 4 ~ Graphing Linear Equations

Chapter 5 ~ Writing the Equations of Lines

Chapter 6 ~ Inequalities

Chapter 7 ~ Systems

Chapter 8 ~ Absolute Value

Chapter 9 ~ Powers and Exponents

Chapter 10 ~ Polynomials and Factoring

Chapter 11 ~ Quadratic Equations

Chapter 12 ~ Functions and Relations

Chapter 13 ~ Rational Expressions

Chapter 14 ~ Radical Expressions/Equations

Chapter 15 ~ Data, Measurement, Probability

This is the Home Screen. It displays the % of the
Curriculum completed and the number of lessons completed.

At the top of each lesson your student will find the Chapter
and lesson number. The lesson title is stated. A brief overview of the
concepts are written out at the top of the page.
step-by-step directions guide the student through the lesson.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Watch The Lesson Video First - Take Good Notes.
  2. Next, Scroll All The Way Down The Page To View The Practice Problems - Try Them On Your Own.
  3. Check The Solutions To The Practice Problems By Looking At The Answer Key At The End Of The Worksheet.
  4. However, YOU MUST Still Watch The Video Solutions To The Practice Problems; These Are The Videos Labeled EX A, EX B, etc. - They Are Located Next To The Lesson Video.
  5. After You Did All Of The Practice Problems - Complete The Section and Advance To The Next Topic.

Each lesson will have Objectives. I really liked this as it gives
the student a clear understanding of what will be covered.

Rules
We all know that rules are so important in math!
students have no excuse to not keep up with the rules.
they cannot say, "I didn't know that that was what you were
supposed to do if the signs were the same."

John Zimmerman the instructor even goes step by step on how
to use a calculator to find answers.

After you have listened to the lesson and completed the lesson
questions Tabletclass math has a very amazing set-up that will have
parents singing praises to professor Zimmerman.
after the problems have been checked any of the problems
that the student gets wrong can be found in the videos where
John Zimmerman works out each and every problem step-by-step
so that the student can see how the problem is supposed to be
done and help the student see where in their problem they
messed up.

Students do not actually type in their answers. They actually use
paper, pencil, and an eraser and work out each problem and then
have their work checked after they have completed the lesson.
I love this!! So many online math curricula have students type in
answers and many times students do not actually work out the
problems step-by-step and with math that is so important.

Pretty self explanatory.

I love, love, love this!! At the end of each chapter there is a
lesson entitled "chapter review notes." This is such a great way
for students to get an overview of each lesson in the
chapter.

Here are a few pages of lecture notes and lesson problems.

I absolutely loved this curriculum. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good, solid math curriculum. Please be sure to read the other reviews written by my Fellow Crew Members
