Calvert ~ A Review

Calvert Homeschool Online provides online learning for grades 3-12. Calvert's online homeschool curriculum has 45 courses. Access is available for up to three students in a family. Automatic grading means that you as a parent get to sit back and relax! A Teacher Dashboard is available to keep track of your child's progress along the way. Placement tests are available so that you can see exactly were your child needs to be for ultimate success in the program. Calvert Homeschool is a leader in homeschool education. Calvert's award-winning products have enabled thousands of families to discover the amazing benefits of home education. They have both individual and family plans available.

We mainly used Calvert to supplement our History/Geography but checked out some of the other curriculum that they had to offer as well. We tried out their Spelling, Chemistry, and Language Arts. The lessons are pretty straight forward and easy for the student to follow. I used this with my 6th, 8th, and 11th graders.

Here is an overview calendar of my youngest child's schedule for November. Each day is laid out with what is to be done.

Before your child even begins with Calvert the parent logs into the Parent Dashboard and chooses which classes they want their students to take. You can add and delete classes.

Here are a few screenshoots from my kiddos subjects.

I really liked that the program was all online and that my students were able to complete the lessons on their own for the most part. Lessons are fairly short. Students are given more than one chance at answering questions if they answer a question wrong the first time. The automatic grading is a huge draw. Not having to worry about keeping track of their progress or grading assignment or tests is a huge plus! Most of my children are not familiar with online learning so navigating the site took a bit of a time to get used to. Not all of them were a fan. Some of them definitely prefer the book and paper method of learning to using the computer. Sharing computers can also become a hassle if each child does not have their own computer.

I looked through all of the different levels and curriculum and was impressed with the wide range of classes offered. I think Calvert offers a very solid curriculum. For parents that are looking for an online curriculum I think that this is definitely a great option. When courses are updated in the system  they are automatically updated. There is no need to search for updates. Calvert Online is compatible with most browsers and works with both Windows and Mac operating systems.
