ESV Devotional Journal, Fruit Of The Spirit: Box Set

Galatians 5:22 says: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control: against such things there is no law." There is a devotional journal for each of the nine fruits of the Spirit compiled by Kristen Wetherell. Journals include twelve Bible passages, a contemplation, insights, summary, and a prayer. Journals and scripture are based on the ESV Bible. The ESV Devotional Journal, Fruit Of The Spirit: Box Set  is available at Crossway.

Wetherell wants users to remember what Romans 8:26 reminds us: "The Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words." The God of all grace is for you, desiring to grow you into his likeness. His Son, Jesus, is at work interceding for you right now through the power of his Holy Spirit. What a blessing and a privilege! says Wetherall.

In studying, keep these three things in mind.
  1. Proceed Prayerfully
  2. Proceed Personally
  3. Proceed Proactively

Lulie Wallace is the designer behind each cover. There are many publications that have featured Wallace's work, including Southern Living, Real Simple, Coastal Living, and Better Homes and Gardens. She works in a variety of media, from fine art to textiles. Stunning designs adorn each of the nine books, giving the set a special and unique feel. The books are stitched together using coordinating threads.

Materials used in the journals are of high quality. There is a slight cloth-like feel to the covers, even though they are paper back. A thick, opaque, cream-colored paper was used. Each section contains plenty of space for answering questions and adding your own thoughts.

A set like this would make the perfect gift for your daughters, mothers, wives, and friends. This would make a wonderful gift for the upcoming holidays. Your loved ones will appreciate the thoughtfulness and aesthetic quality of such a gift.

Example of a passage from Fruit Of The Spirit Love  Psalm 36: 5-12
  1. Contemplation: Write out words or phrases from the passage that stand out to you. This will help you slow down and focus on the meaning of each word.
  2. Insights: As you reread the passage, consider what it says about who God is and what it looks like to live a life of faith and obedience to him. Note any questions you have and write down answers you find in trusted study resources.
  3. Summary: In one to three sentences, summarize the main point of this passage.
  4. Prayer: Pour your heart out to the Lord, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit as you praise him, confess to him, listen to him, and trust in him.

Wetherell has created an excellent study tool that guides users through the nine characteristics of a believer. What an honor it is to study God's Word. According to Wetherell, the whole purpose of this journal set and of scripture is to help us grow in our knowledge and love of Jesus.
