Carole P. Roman ~ A Review

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

We had the opportunity to review four books from the assorted series by author Carole P. Roman. The  books that we reviewed were: If You Were Me And Lived In IsraelIf You Were Me And Lived In South KoreaIf You Were Me And Lived In Poland, and If You Were Me And Lived In Norway. The targeted age is 7-9 years. With that said, my 11-year-old thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning about the various cultures from the countries that we got to explore in the books listed above.

If You Were Me And Lived In...Norway: A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World

Did you know that from November to January, the sky lights up with spectacular lights called the aurora borealis. We know them more by the name, northern lights. May 17th is a very special day in Norway. It is called Syttende Mai, the signing of Norway's constitution. There is a parade, costumes, and lots of fun.

If You Were Me And Lived In Israel...A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World

Did you know that Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world? Some of the wonderful food you might enjoy would be falafel which is ground chickpeas that are fried into crunchy balls. You might have Shwarma which is a grilled meat. For dessert you may get to have baklava. This dessert is a flaky pastry filled with dried fruits and nuts and honey. Doesn't that sound wonderful? In spring you would celebrate Purim. This is a day to remember the ancient Queen Esther who saved her people from an evil minister that created laws for the land.

If You Were Me And Lived In Poland...A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World

Did you know that the Polish constitution was written on May 3, 1791? That was a long time ago. That made it the first in Europe and second in the world! Football in Poland is called pilka nozna. It is the most popular sport in Poland. There is a very fascinating legend behind how Warsaw got its name. It has to do with love and mermaids. There is actually a mermaid on the official city seal. I don't want to ruin the story.

If You Were Me And Lived In South Korea...A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World

Did you know that the Lunar New Year is called Seol-nal. It is a time to visit family and enjoy many festivity's. The capital of South Korea is Seoul. It is built on the banks of the Han River and people have lived there for over two thousand years.

The books have a Pronunciation guide at the end of each book. Readers can get help pronouncing some of the hard words that may be unfamiliar to them. Throughout the book when these unfamiliar words come up the words are followed by the words written out phonetically in parentheses.

This series is perfect for giving children an introduction to countries and cultures from around the world. The length of the books are long enough to capture a good overview of the country without being so long that a child looses interest. There are a lot of pictures. While you read the child can be looking at the pictures. If the child is able to read the books for themselves they will enjoy how well the pictures go along with the text.

My daughter said, "You definitely will learn some pretty fun and interesting stuff in these books. These books are really easy to read. There is a If You Were Me And Lived In series for older children too. I give all of these books two thumbs up."

Here are my past reviews on Carole P. Roman's books.

Our family has enjoyed Carole's books so much. Our favorite books from her collection are her culture and history series. Definitely check out what the rest of the Homeschool Review Crew had to say about the other books by Carole P. Roman.
