Fermentools ~ A Review

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

I had the opportunity to review the Starter Kit from Fermentools. With Fermentools you can turn any wide mouth mason jar into a fermenting crock. While reading about fermenting on the website I learned so much about the process. Whatever food you are fermenting sits under the salt water brine and away from air, this then creates an anaerobic environment. An anaerobic environment is defined as the absence of free oxygen. Such an environment is necessary for fermentation to occur. The whole process is pretty amazing and scientific. The Fermentools website is full of wonderful information, recipes, and health tips.

The Starter Kit come with:
  • 1 Stainless Steel Lid
  • 1 Glass Fermentation Weight
  • 1 Air Lock
  • 2 Rubber Stoppers
  • 1 Rubber Canning Gasket
  • Himalayan Powdered Salt
  • Instruction Guide

I decided to try to make Sauerkraut.
The recipe was in the instruction guide.

In this picture you can see the glass fermentation weight in the jar.
The rubber canning gasket is sitting on top of the jar.

I have added the stainless steal lid and rubber stopper.

I then added the Air Lock.

After one week I went to open up my sauerkraut and found mold.
I have no idea what happened. The smell was no good.
The website says, "The tools you need to ferment with success."
I guess there are a few that fall through the cracks.
After rereading the instructions again I finally figured out what I did WRONG.
I forgot to fill the airlock 1/2 way with non-chlorinated water!!

It looks okay but smells not so good!

When the restrictions in our area lift due to Covid-19 and I am
really able to get to one of my favorite stores that carry good fresh veggies
that I prefer over what I have been able to get right now I will be trying again.

Please be sure to read what my fellow Homeschool Review Crew Members had
to say about Fermentools. I know that MANY of them had great success in
fermenting many different vegetables.
