Owl Anatomy Floor Puzzle

The Owl Anatomy Floor Puzzle is a reversible 2-in-1 puzzle. There are 100 pieces in the puzzle, which measures 46.5" long by 30.5" high. This is a huge puzzle! One side offers breathtaking artwork of a Great Horned Owl. When you flip the puzzle over, you'll see a scientifically accurate reconstruction of the owl anatomy. Combining nature and science, it brings the two together. Upon completion, the puzzle is truly magnificent. Flipping the puzzle over is somewhat tricky. A two-sided laminated fact sheet is included in the puzzle box. The purpose is to encourage exploration and help children learn more about the owl's biology. One side is a Fun Fact Sheet with interesting facts about the owl, such as. "Many owls' ears are asymmetrical, with one higher on their head than the other. This allows them to better locate sounds in three dimensions." There are ten interesting facts about the Great Horned Owl (Bubo Virginianus). The Anatomy Guide side has forty-four parts of the owl labeled. Pectoralis muscle, pancreas, pars postacetabularis and praeacetabularis, and operculum are some of the parts that are identified. Puzzle pieces are thick and sturdy. There is a richness and vibrancy to the colors. The puzzle is not only a wonderful teaching tool, but is also an amazing piece of art.

In some cases, the pieces are identical on both sides, but in others, there is a clear difference. In the cases where the pieces are different, there will be inner anatomy parts. With only 100 pieces, the puzzle is not too challenging. Young children will find the puzzle pieces easy to grip. The whole family can enjoy assembling this puzzle.

When you turn your back for a few minutes, the puzzle may be nearly done by your child who adores puzzles.

The picture does not convey what it actually looks like in person.

Wondrous Works of God

In Wondrous Works of God, ninety Bible stories are told from both the Old and New Testaments, beginning with God creating Eve and ending with Jesus defeating Satan in Revelation. It is the sequel to Mighty Acts of God. All of the stories emphasize God's character, which is highlighted in red. There is also a short "As For Me and My House..." section that contains questions, statements, and activities that reinforce the story's point. Bible stories include scripture references to show where they come from. Each story is about two and a half pages long.

"A Note For Parents From The Author" page 15 describes learning and teaching God's Word to children in a very practical way.

It's imperative, however, that we read Bible stories correctly. When we read the stories as isolated units, we read them out of context. Read a random chapter, or worse, a random page, from a Dickens novel, and you will have a completely inadequate idea of what the author is trying to communicate or of what the character on that page is really like. Many of us read —and teach — the Bible like that. We try to make sense of an isolated story standing alone. Consequently, we fail to see what God is revealing about himself in this story, as he works toward the salvation of his people. We must think in terms of the whole, wonderful story of God's salvation. That salvation story began when he created the world, continued when he promised a remedy for the fall, was articulated when he made covenants, grew and developed all through his dealings with his Old Testament people, and finally blossomed into it's fullest glory when Jesus came, as intended all along, to die for his people and rise again.

Every Bible story must be told in light of this big story. We must ask ourselves, how does this story fit into the overall story of the salvation God provides in Christ? We must look for what God is revealing about himself through what he is doing here, in this story.
It is with this goal in mind that this collection of Bible stories has been written.

Here are a few of the stories that you will find in Wondrous Works of God by Starr Meade.

This is an example of one of the As For Me And My House...

A Bible Story Book is an excellent way to teach children God's Word every day. Children will enjoy the illustrations as they hear the stories read to them. Among the stories you will find in this Story Book are: The First Passover, Balaam and the Donkey, David Takes a Census, Uzziah's Pride, Ezekiel's Vision of Dry Bones, John Bears Witness to Jesus, Sinful Woman Forgiven, Unforgiving Servant, The Parable of Ten Young Women and Shipwrecks and Snakebites.

I recommend this book.

Gluten-Free Baking

Gluten-Free Baking: Mastering Deliciously Easy Treats in 2024 is marketed as a gluten-free cookbook. It contains colorful pictures of all recipes included in the book.

The catergories include:

Breakfast Delights

Muffins and Scones

Artisan Breads

Cookies and Bars

Cakes and Cupcakes

Pies and Tarts

Pastries and Doughnuts

Savory Bakes

Special Occasion Treats

Holiday Favorites

All recipes in Breakfast Delights are gluten-free. In Muffins and Scones all recipes call for all-purpose flour. In Artisan Breads only the Classic Gluten-Free Bread Loaf asks for gluten-free all-purpose flour. One asked for all-purpose flour and the other whole wheat flour and bread flour. In Cookies and Bars all recipes ask for all-purpose flour. In Cakes and Cupcakes the Flourless Cake has no flour. The other ones ask for all-purpose flour. In Pies and Tarts the Gluten-Free Apple Pie calls for gluten-free flour and a gluten-free pie crust. One calls for almond flour and the other all-purpose flour. In Pastries and Donuts the Gluten-Free Cinnamon Rolls call for gluten-free flour. The other recipes call for all-purpose flour. In Savory Bakes all of the recipes call for all-purpose flour and one calls for a regular store-bought pie shell. In Special Occasion Treats the Flourless Chocolate Torte has no flour. The other recipes call for all-purpose flour. In Holiday Favorites the Gluten-Free Gingerbread Cookies call for gluten-free flour. All of the other recipes call for all-purpose flour.

At the beginning of the book there is a section entitled Essential Ingredients and Substitutes in Baking. With regards to flour it says it's a versatile flour. All-purpose flour can be used in a variety of recipes. Alternatives include whole wheat flour, almond flour, coconut flour, or gluten-free flours like rice flour. They talk about binding agents, leavening agents, etc. Under Experimentation and Recipe Modification it states, It's advisable to start with established gluten-free recipes and gradually make adjustments based on personal preferences and desired outcomes. This gluten-free cookbook does not contain 100% gluten-free recipes.

Gobsmacked is the most appropriate word to describe what I felt after looking through this cookbook. I don't understand why almost 80% of the recipes in Gluten-Free Baking: Mastering Deliciously Easy Treats in 2024 are not gluten-free.When a book's recipes aren't gluten-free, how can you tout them as gluten-free? It is truly beyond my comprehension.

This book piqued my interest since my daughter has Celiac Disease. Finding good, successful recipes is difficult. ...and then to see this!

THIS IS NOT A BOOK I RECOMMEND!

The Forest of Numbers

The Forest of Numbers is written and illustrated by Abby Lewis. Being a homeschool educator for 24 years, my excitement over this book could only be understood by a fellow educator. In my view, math is among the most challenging subjects to teach as well as for children to grasp. It does an outstanding job of explaining math concepts in a way students can grasp. A storybook format is used to explain mathematical concepts and provide students with the opportunity to solve actual mathematical problems.

This book covers:

The Journey Begins

Statements with Grape

Proofs with Mathy

Numbers at the Number Market

Division with the Crabs

Modular Arithmetic with Worm

Riddle Me This

Solutions

What is a Humboldt Marten?

Maisie Marten, Worm, and Grape a banana slug are the main characters in the book. Maisie's dream is to experience the ocean, but she's terrified of numbers. There is only one way to do this: through the Forest of Numbers! Maisie decides she'll go as long as Worm is with her. Her friend Grape, who lives in the Forest, is also on her mind. She learns about Statements from Grape in the Forest of Numbers. From Mathy the Owl, Maisie learns about Proofs. As they cross the giant river, they see The Number Market and see the stands for Natural Numbers, Odd & Even Numbers, Negative Numbers, Rational Numbers, and Irrational Numbers. Maisie had no idea how many numbers there were to comprehend! They were approaching the forest edge when the soil turned to sand. Forest sounds faded away, and soon they heard ocean waves crashing against the shore. At last, they had reached the ocean! A scuttling sound was heard in the sand. There were crabs in the sand. Maisie was quite shy but said, "Hello." The crab responded back, "12." Worm then said, "The creatures of the dunes don't speak in words like you and me. They are ancient. They've lived here for so long, they don't remember anything but the numbers." Crabs love Division. There are twelve Riddle Me This problems at the end of the book. One of the problems is, "Worm wants a slice of pie and thinks it might be fun to eat exactly pi slices of pie. Is this possible?"

Detailed explanations and definitions are provided for all of the above mathematical terms. The students are asked to write their own examples of each. Each concept is explained with mathematical problems. In some cases, the main term might have one or two additional terms to accompany it. The artwork throughout the book is amazing.

I recommend this book. Abby Lewis should write more books about math. One well-known homeschool math curriculum uses story-based math instruction. Yet The Forest of Numbers is remarkably different in many ways. What a wonderful book. Abby, please write more!

Vintage Recipes of the 1940's

In Vintage Recipes of the 1940's, you will find breakfast, main dishes, desserts, and drinks that your parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents, depending on your age, would have made and served. I am curious about the source of these recipes. In addition to geographical location, affluence also influences food choices.

Because of WWII, many key goods were rationed during the 1940's. A number of foods were heavily rationed, including sugar, butter, meat, coffee, and canned goods. As other foods became scarce, they followed. There were several recipes in this book that I found surprising, since they called for both butter and various types of sugar. Some of them seemed out of place in that era. However, I am just speculating.

In looking through the recipes, I remembered talking to my grandmother who was born in 1919 and raised seven children on a farm. Of course cooking came up many times. My mother talked about living on a farm with seven siblings. In her words, store bought bread was an unnecessary luxury, and peanut butter was a luxury. Every week, her mother baked bread. A variety of factors affected what and how you ate, including where you lived geographically, whether you lived in a big city or on a farm, the size of your family, income, and other factors.

Here are some of the recipes you will find in the book:

Breakfast

Cinnamon Toast with Melted Butter

Homemade Granola with Yogurt and Honey

Cornmeal Mush with Fried Apples

Main Dishes

Bacon and Mushroom Quiche

Baked Ham with Scalloped Potatoes

Creamed Peas on Toast

Desserts

Custard Pie

Bread Pudding

Caramel Fudge

Drinks

Tom and Jerry Cocktail

Hurricane

Grape Soda

There are many recipes in this book that I make for my family today. A few recipes would be a no go for me. Several of them sounded interesting, so I may have to give them a try. There are a few that sound British. America is referred to as "The Melting Pot" for a reason.

This recipe book will bring back different memories for everyone. A favorite childhood meal or dessert may be found by some. Another person may recall watching their mother prepare some of these foods. It's that aspect of recipe books that makes them so wonderful. There is another wonderful thing about recipe books. Recipes are preserved. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and baking.

Overall, I wasn't impressed with this recipe book. It didn't seem to be a good representation of 1940's recipes. Being that it was a time of food rationing, and women shared recipes and had to get creative with cooking and baking, I would have liked some history surrounding recipes during that period. There was an abundance of potatoes and a lot of potato recipes. Due to meat shortages, many "mock" recipes were also created. A common practice among women and children was to create "Victory Gardens" for the purpose of providing fresh fruits and vegetables for themselves and their communities. Cooking required creativity. As the war raged, families at home sacrificed to ensure soldiers were fed well.

Get Canning

Get CANNING! : The Complete Guide to Preserving: Fruits, Vegetables, Meats, and Meals in a Jar, Along With the Knowledge and Supply List to Do It Safely! is a book on how to can your own food. Book length is 157 pages. The cover was beautiful, but it misled the reader. The first time I skimmed through the book, I noticed it lacked pictures! How are you going to write a guide to preserving food without any pictures? The book is billed as a "complete guide" but you still have to look up the basic items you would expect in such a book. Let's start with the supply list. Digital scales, for example, are obvious. However, other supplies, such as a Kraut Pounder or Pickelhelix, can seem foreign to someone unfamiliar with canning processes. Despite the fact that each supply is explained, you shouldn't have to go to the internet to see what they look like.

Conclusion

References

Here we are again with pictures. Chapter one discusses fermintation. It is great to discuss fermentation, but it is even better to show examples of fermented foods. An example of a fermented starter should be shown. As it stands, it seems like the author just slapped this book together just to publish something without taking the time to make it a true resource for users. In your discussion of fermentation crocks vs jars, ceramic vs glass, and then sealed vs un-sealed you lost me. This is not helpful if I have no knowledge of canning but really want to learn. PICTURES! Compare and contrast the positives and negatives of each. Display pictures of the fermentation process before and after. Again, pictures of the fermentation process. My interest in the book has completely waned at this point. Further reading does not interest me at all. In this case, I would seek out a book that provides plenty of pictures to accompany the information being presented.

There were also several aspects of the book that bothered me, such as the format, font, font size, etc. There is a lack of uniformity in the font throughout the book. Both the format and the font size vary throughout the book. Some sections are bolded and italicized while others are just bolded. The margins are all over the place. Chapter 3 contains an inconsistent step-by-step process. It consists of 21 points. The third is bolded and in a different font than the others. There are several points with justified line spacing, while others have normal line spacing.

In my reviews, I try very hard to be positive. I normally write positive reviews, but I also feel that I owe my readers honest reviews. I would not recommend this book. There was no time spent planning, executing, or presenting this book to interested readers who are eager to learn more about canning.

The Pregnant Mother

A new puzzle has been added to Dr. Livingston's human anatomy puzzles, entitled The Pregnant Mother. Mesa Schumacher who is certified in medical and biological illustration illustrated the Dr. Livingston puzzles. Her master's degree is in Medical Illustration from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Additionally, Schumacher holds degrees from the University of Washington and Stanford University. Additionally, she studied Fine Arts at the GAGE Academy in Seattle. Her passions include creating, storytelling images, drawing, and animating. With a height of 3' and a width of 2', this puzzle has 448 pieces. In this puzzle, the incredible bond between a mother and a full-term fetus is captured. An average uterus expands 500 times its normal size during a full term single birth pregnancy. What a fascinating glimpse into the female body. To see the way the organs realign to accommodate a growing baby is amazing. Being a mother of six myself, it's no surprise that pregnant women encounter so many uncomfortable symptoms. Several nights ago, my daughters and I put this puzzle together. Currently, my daughter is 38 weeks pregnant. The conversation and laughter we shared while assembling the amazing puzzle was truly a joy.

Throughout this puzzle, there are special shapes that represent anatomical structures and organs related to pregnancy, such as the uterus, placenta, and glands. This puzzle explores the wonders of life in an interactive and fun way. The whole picture of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby will become clearer as each system is completed. As you complete the puzzle, you will learn pregnancy anatomy and physiology.

100% Accurate

Mama needs a stand up break.

Thick puzzle pieces, and rich colors.

The Pregnant Mother finished.

My daughter is 38 weeks pregnant.

Putting this puzzle together was both educational and enjoyable. The puzzle is highly recommended.

How should the book be navigated? The book structure is structured to lay down foundational concepts and medical terminology first. The concept material progresses with the chapters.

There is continuity between each chapter structurally. A comprehensive understanding of medical terminology can be gained by focusing on one specific aspect of medical terminology per chapter. Here is how you gain knowledge from the book.

  1. Foundational Concept

  2. Building Complexity

  3. Practical Application

  4. Enhanced Learning

All chapters follow a structured approach. This format is used for each chapter.

  9. Conclusion

However, I was disappointed to find so few colorful anatomy pictures throughout the book. The anatomy pictures were not very detailed or colorful, and there were about six of them.

In summary, I still think this is a useful medical terminology guide for beginners. I would probably recommend it.
