Doctor Livingston Jr. 100 Piece Human Body Floor Puzzle

What better way to get your child excited about learning basic human anatomy than putting together a 4 foot tall puzzle. With the Doctor Livingston Jr. Human Body Floor Puzzle you child will get detailed, accurate cross-cut of the entire human body. From the cranium to the phalanges your child will see how bones connect at joints, muscles connect with tendons, arteries, veins, and nerves weave throughout the body, and how each organ fits perfectly in its given space. The human body is truly miraculous. This puzzle is part of  Timberdoodle's 2022 First-Grade Curriculum Kit.

Doctor Livingston Jr. Human Body Floor Puzzle was awarded in the Top 12 in Timberdoodle's Awards for 2021. 

When you open the box you will find the puzzle pieces in a bag. Included in the box is a double sided, laminated Anatomy Reference Guide. The box has a piece of velcro for extra secure closure. 

The front side of the card labeled, The Human Body, labels common parts of the body such as eyes, teeth, brain, and the foot. There are some probably some newer body parts that your child may not be familiar with such as the clavicle, quadriceps muscle, maxilla bone, and the tarsal bones.

On the flip side of the Anatomy Reference Guide is The Human Body Fun Facts. Did you know this about your arm, "When you hit your 'funny bone,' you've smashed a nerve in your elbow against your upper arm bone, which is called the humerus, How humorous!" 

Planning it out. At only 100 pieces this by far is definitely not as challenging as the Dr. Livingston's Anatomy Jigsaw Puzzles ~ Set of 7 that we reviewed back in 2021. That set is geared for the high school age student while this Dr. Livingston Jr. Human Body Floor Puzzle is part of the 1st grade curriculum set. 

The puzzle pieces are fairly large and are thick. They are made for smaller hands to grasp and manipulate as your child finds each interlocking piece placement.  

On the back of the box your child can see what the completed human body figure is supposed to look like once it is completed. 

For the kinesthetic learner this puzzle would be a great hands-on learning activity. If your child tends to have a short attention span or gets too fidgety you can easily put the puzzle together in short spurts.

The box says that the puzzle is four feet in length. My daughter got out our tape measure to see how accurate it was. She thought it looked way too small to be four feet. 

Give or take an inch or so it was very close to the 4 foot mark. I didn't look to see if she had the bottom of the tape measure at the lowest point of the bottom of the completed puzzle so we will call it 4 feet. For most kiddos in early to mid elementary this anatomically correct puzzle will be close to their size. How cool is that! 

The following pictures are close-ups of each section of the completed puzzle. As you can see the detail is fantastic. Your child will get an inside look into the human body without the gory and gross pictures often found in books or the less detailed textbook diagrams. 

Isn't the detail amazing! This puzzle would be a great lead into a unit study or a lap book project on human anatomy. Your child has a wonderful view of the intricate organs, bones, veins, muscles, and so much more that make up their bodies. Even if after completing the puzzle turns into a great discussion time about how different parts of the body work gives your child a deeper understanding of the many parts that have to work together to make their bodies work.

I would highly recommend this puzzle. It is a great learning tool for early elementary and up and also fun! If you have older children as well you may want to check out the more complex Dr. Livingston's Anatomy Jigsaw Puzzles ~ Set of 7 for the high school level student. This set is very challenging. Singapore Math Live

Singapore Math Live was founded by a homeschool mother who wanted to make Singapore Math more user friendly for homeschool families. Over 1,329 Challenging Word Problem videos will walk your student step-by-step through all of the word problems. Singapore Math curriculum helps students become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Singapore Math Live - Challenging Word Problems is meant to be a supplemental math curriculum. As a parent you set the pace for your child. I reviewed Level 6. Level 6 is broken down into 25 lesson. Each lesson varies from 10 minutes to almost 60 minutes. Most lessons have 10 Challenging Word Problems. Each video where Brenda works the problem range from a bit over 1 minutes to around 4.5 minutes. Students  Primary Mathematics ~ Challenging Word Problems 6 is necessary in order to work through the Level 6 program. The workbook will need to be purchased separately. 

I just have to comment on the amazing price. What you get for $45 is fantastic! You will get a bit over 828 minutes of video time in the 25 lessons of Level 6. 

This is the breakdown of the 25 lessons for Level 6 Challenging Word Problems. The page numbers correspond to the pages where each lesson can be found in the Primary Mathematics Challenging Word Problems. 

On the left hand side the CWP lessons are listed with page numbers. The length of each lesson is also listed for each lesson. Above the workspace in the horizontal blue bar there is a home button, the CWP workbook page numbers, and once your student has completed all of the problems within the lesson a Complete Lesson button can be pressed. Once that is pressed a checkmark on the left hand side will appear for that lesson indicating that the lesson has been completed. 

Once your student has completed the Practice Questions you can check their answers which are found at the back of the book. If any of the problems are incorrect you can then have them listen to the solution video for those particular problems. Some of the problems may have more than on way to find the solution.  

In 10-15 minutes a day your child can easily complete two to three problems. Brenda recommends that your child work on these problems when their brains are fresh and alert. You may have your child work on these problems 5 days a week or only a couple of days each week. You and your child set the pace that is right for them. 

Each lesson in the workbook begins with Worked Examples. This particular lesson is Fractions. The lesson begins with Worked Examples followed by Practice Questions. There are typically about 10-12 Practice Questions. After the Practice Questions there are Challenging Problems that provide the more advanced student with higher level word problems. Again, the student will be given a Worked Example followed by about 10 questions for the student to work through. 

Having never used Singapore Math my daughter did find the problems a bit of a challenge. Story Problems are definitely the weakest area for my daughter. She struggled with Challenging Word Problems 6. I think that jumping into a curriculum that one is unfamiliar with can be somewhat of a challenge. I do think that Singapore Math Live is a great tool to strengthen problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and proficiency in solving multi-step word problems. Singapore Math Live - Challenging Word Problems would also be a great summer enrichment to keep your child's math skills sharp. Be sure to read my Fellow Crew Members reviews of the various Levels 1-6.

A family member of mine found this nestled in a used book that they purchased. The cursive writing is beautiful. With regards to the poem I wonder, was it a man or a woman? How long ago was the poem written? I hope that you enjoy the poem.  

 

Whatsoever Stories

The purpose behind Whatsoever Stories is to provide God-honoring books that uphold biblical principles.  Trial at the Ridge is about the Whitlock family who live on Sunlight Ridge farm. The main characters are William and Nathanael who are brothers. Nathanael loves school and is a great speller. He is looking forward to the annual Spelling Bee coming up. William is not so good when it comes to school but is very good at all things farming. Their fellow schoolmate Zachary is quite mean and is determined to win the Spelling Bee. A knock at Whitlock's door will change their lives. Mr. Greylin, the banker has come to inform the Whitlock's that they are delinquent on their mortgage. They have 30 days make the payment or loose their farm. Life will take another difficult turn when Nathanael, William, and their father head up to the ridge on their horses along with their dogs. A tree suddenly dumps snow from its branches and spooks the horses and dogs. Their father ends up falling down the ridge. Their dad is laid up for months and the boys are now responsible for running the farm. They have to leave school which is very hard on Nathanael. They are determined to find a way to save their farm. They have 30 days to do so. William and Nathanael will try digging for buried treasure, trapping animals for fur, and finally killing the elusive mountain lion that has a bounty on it. All of these endeavors will come with challenges and obstacles. The brother's continue to study for the Spelling Bee and each brother succeeds in his own way. Through loss, heartache, and forgiveness the brother's find true joy. In the end the Whitlock family is blessed for their determination, faithfulness, and forgiveness. The book was written for ages 10-14. With that said, Trial at the Ridge is definitely a book that the whole family would enjoy.

The book is paperback with a laminated cover. Trial at the Ridge is 186 pages.

The book has 25 chapters. The book is also broken down by dates/days.

Trial at the Ridge is a fictional book but there are events and elements in the book that are based on the author's family experiences. A glossary at the end of the book contains German words and phrases as well as farming terms. The story takes place in the "Roaring Twenties." Following WWI the economy saw a boom. After the war demand for crops declined and thus the market value plummeted. The cost of farm products increased. Farmers land value decreased. This all led to financial ruin for many farmers with many seeing their farms go into foreclosure.

These are just a few of the wonderful topics that your teen will learn as they work through the 35 lessons of Behold Your God. There is both a Student Manual as well as a Teacher's Manual in this curriculum. You can also purchase an Extra Resources - Presentation and Evaluation that provides added tools to supplement the curriculum. The curriculum can be purchased in either book form or digital. 

My daughter said, "Behold Your God is a Bible study in which the goal is to study God and His role as not only our heavenly Father but also the Creator of the universe. This curriculum starts off simply by explaining our faith and who God is. Lessons gradually get more complex to further the student’s understanding of their faith. Students are presented with a lesson to read through that provides questions and Bible passages to help further understanding. This curriculum also comes with a teachers binder full of lectures and the answers to the student lessons. This lecture also provides students answers to questions from their studies labeled Notes from the Teacher’s Lesson. At the end of each lesson, students are presented with prompts and questions for them to research and write essays on in order to receive the full extent of the learning experience. Of course, it is possible to conduct the study alone, but students might grasp a better understanding if they complete this study with a class and teacher. The reason for this being that class discussions can help a student delve deeper into what they have just read. The lessons and questions are all quite straightforward without being too obvious. This curriculum has achieved the perfect balance between easy understanding and making one think. Overall, I believe Behold Your God is the perfect curriculum for anyone to gain a better understanding of Christ and grow stronger in their faith."

The 35 lessons are broken down into 6 units of study. The lessons are labeled as chapters in the student book. The units of study are:

1. The Knowledge of God
2. The Nature of God
3. The Attributes of God
4. The History of God
5. The Person of God
6. The Holy Spirit

Each lesson contains a quote, reading that pertains to the specific focus topic, student work which includes looking up scripture and answering questions, notes from the teacher's lecture, and application activities. In chapter 3 Knowing God the quote is:

"To glorify God is to have God-admiring thoughts, to esteem Him most

excellent, and search for diamond in this rock only."

The student reading takes a lengthy quote from A.W. Tozer's book The Pursuit of God. 

The Student Work focuses on Knowing God Involves a Personal Relationship as well as a Personal Fellowship. 

The Challenge asks the student, What is your relationship with God? and, What about your fellowship with God?

One of the application activities is for the student to read Chapter 4 in Tozer's The Pursuit of God. Student's are asked to define in their own words what it means to be "otherworldly." 

To get a really good idea of what is in each lesson there is a Scope and Sequence that lists the Lesson Topics, Development Activities, and Life Applications for each chapter. 

The contents of the Teacher's Manual come in a three-ring binder with sectional dividers. In the manual you will find:

1. A scripted Teacher's Lecture for each of the 35 lessons. 
2. Weekly schedules for 3, 4, or a 5 day week.
3. Lesson Objectives
4. A Scripture Memory program
5. The Student Manual pages with the answers filled in. 
6. Weekly Quizzes and Unit Test with Answer Keys.

Famous Men of Rome:

4th - 5th Grade

There are four components that make up the Famous Men of Rome Set. The Famous Men of Rome Text has thirty stories that cover ancient Rome history from its founding to its demise. The Famous Men of Rome Student Guide contains thirty lesson which include vocabulary, comprehension questions, important facts to know, and various activities. The Famous Men of Rome Teacher Guide is identical to the student guide except it has the answers for each lesson written in as well as the quizzes and tests. The Famous Men of Rome Flashcards are basically the drill questions which are the key people, places, and events that your child needs to remember as they study throughout the year. 

Lesson details:

For each lesson pull the Flashcards that go with the weeks lesson. The lesson numbers are at the top left side of the cards. Throughout the year it is expected that the student master these question/answers. The 119 flashcards encompass what has been learned throughout the year. The final year exam is made up of questions from these flashcards. Start every lesson by reviewing the previous lessons flashcards as well as the new ones. The Facts to Know and Quotations are used to help the students become familiar with words that they will hear and or read in their stories that will be unfamiliar to them. The Vocabulary is for the purpose of context so that when the story for the week is read the student is familiar with these words. Before reading the story read through the Comprehension Questions so that the student is clued into what to listen for as the story is read. Memoria Press recommends, if at all possible, for the parent/teacher to read the story to the student to aid in both interest and understanding. With regards to the questions you know your child the best. If your child reads well, has good reading comprehension, and is able locate where the answers within the stories are found and then answer the questions correctly and in complete sentences, great. Other students may struggle with this. At this point you may need to guide them to the page, column, or paragraph that the answer is found. Have your child try and give you their answer. You can write it down and have them copy it or you can aid them in writing. The hope is that by the end of the year they are able to do this task on their own. Each lesson has Activities that are optional. Some of the activities include timelines, maps, research, reading and discussing from other materials, drawing pictures, etc. After every five lessons there is a review lesson followed by a test. At the end of the year the student will have a final test over all of the material. Completing a lesson should take about an hour to an hour and a half.

Students often confuse Coriolanus, Cincinnatus, and Camillus. Review the stories of these men and write a concise and precise description of each. 

In the back of the Student Guide are a handful of helpful resources for your student such as maps, Who Said That?, a timeline, famous excerpts, a pronunciation guide, and drill questions. 

The Text is full of colorful pictures.
